Пока все мы ждем, чтобы узнать, какая адаптация мультсериала «Аватар: Легенда об Аанге» получится в итоге у Netflix, можно немного помечать. Недавно 3D-скульпторша из Hasbro Миа Прэй показала, как бы выглядел «Аватар» в 3D.

На Twitch можно посмотреть невыпущенный пилот «Аватара: Легенда об Аанге»

Она с детства является фанаткой оригинального мультика, так что в качестве личного фан-проекта решила представить его 3D-версии. И несколько месяцев назад показала модельку Аанга.

Потом к действию подключился аниматор Сагар Арун, который работал на Sony, Disney и Blizzard. Он показал тесты и анимацию персонажа.

I've been rigging the model @meems_24 made for the last few days, and I decided to do a expression test to see how the face rig was working so far. I went a little overboard with it hahaha but how can you not?? It was super rewarding bringing him to life. The next step will probably be a walk cycle to test out the body rig (which still needs a loottt of work), but it's getting there! Definitely a WIP on the face rig too but I thought I'd share! We ended up getting a new rigger who's doing an AMAZING job, so I thought I'd test out some expressions and render them to see how they'd look! The rig is still WIP but it's coming along nicely. Sound on!! ?? I did this as an early rig test to see if the body was working! I planned to have his drape going across his chest but it wasn't working well with this version of the rig :( I also did simple geo fx for his airbending! In no way does it replace actual dynamic fx, but its sufficient to tell the story. I also referenced a lot of airbending moves directly from the show: if you look at the end of the episode "The Deserter", he does a very similar move when fighting Zhao! I did a sound pass and ended up taking sound from various parts of the show. The music is from one of the avatar chibi shorts and Aang's voice is taken from some of the fights! In addition, I drew/painted over some of the initial thumbnails I had in my sketchbook. I always tend to draw over my poses and do thumbnails so I can hit appealing poses as I go through the motion! Included in the last panel is my initial 2D pass for the shot as well. It was different from the final, it didn't have the cabbage gag at all! Sound on ??️ Honestly, not a huge fan of how this turned out animation wise, but @jacoberinmann saved it with some beautiful compositing work that he did! I did some quick Maya lighting which didn't look great, but he made it look way better than I thought possible ❤️ Time permitting, this may end up being lit and simmed properly! Even though he was the main character, Aang has only a few interesting lines to animate. After looking through the whole show, I chose this one because I felt his suddenly disconnecting from his previous life from before the iceberg was compelling to explore. I also thought it would be fun to give him some business (airbending the leaf) to do as he was talking so he's actually doing something as he's speaking. I included a blocking version in which the ideas were much more generic. In that version, the rig wasn't even complete yet so I was blocking without any mouth shapes! @tarunlak pushed me to find a more specific performance for him, which led to him hugging his knee, which he does a lot in the show! @greg.verreault and @dceballos95 also gave me some great notes. В итоге к работе подключилось множество людей, и они сделали начало заставки. Вышло прикольно!

Sound on ??️ for nostalgia! I LOVED working with an amazing team on beautiful project! In the beginning, I never thought it even get rigged, much less become a fully, feature film quality looking thing. After it was rigged and I animated a few tests, Jake asked me if we could make our own version of the avatar intro. It was a pretty big undertaking, seeing as we had to bring other artists on board, and convince them to work on it on their own time after their day job. But, it was super satisfying seeing the 4 elements come together, as well as all elements of the animation pipeline working together to showcase this final product! Even though it's 11 seconds, it took a month to complete. I only animated water and fire this time around, but it was very cool seeing what the other artists brought to the project :D Swipe to see the four elements by themselves!
